I have met people from all over the world, Sweden, the Netherlands, London, etc., and one thing I appreciate in many of them as a community and as individuals is their bluntness and raw honesty about their people and their culture. It is something I don't miss from back home the way Americans hide from the truth of our history and the way trauma and pain tear through people's cultures like bulldozers. It is not the history itself that isn't allowing us to move forward as a country; it is the repression and the hiding of that history that keeps us at a standstill, while the world watches us through a magnifying glass; a spectacle on display.
